Reporter Volume 25, No.17 February 17, 1994 President William Greiner described formation of a Student Affairs task force to examine ways to make the University Bookstore more representative of outstanding bookstores at other research universities, during a meeting of the UB Council Feb. 10. Greiner noted his hope that cooperatively, new ways can be found to increase the number and range of books and to generally improve service. In other business, Greiner labeled as "very, very premature" discussions of a new law school building. The Council also heard a report from Senior Vice President for University Services Robert J. Wagner on Gov. Cuomo's executive budget and its implications for UB, and a presentation on Millard Fillmore College from Vice President for Public Service and Urban Affairs Muriel Moore. MFC enrollment for fall 1993 stood at 2,704 students, Moore said. The overwhelming majority are employed; the average age is 31. Principal goals for the college, she said, are to boost enrollment ("it's about 1/2 of what it was in 1972") and to achieve some tuition relief for evening students, the issues of funding often cited in "informal surveys" of former students, Moore pointed out. The Council voted to approve the dental school's request to honor donors to the dental centennial. The Oral Pathology Conference Room was named in recognition of the Class of 1967 for gifts totaling $66,590 from 30 class members. The crown and bridge departmental conference room was named in memory of Dr. Gunner Gallard in recognition of gifts from 40 of his classmates in 1968, totaling $12,705.
