Reporter Volume 25, No.16 February 10, 1994 Anthony Kaye, former social work dean Anthony K. Kaye, 82, former assistant dean of the UB School of Social Work, died Feb. 4 in St. Francis Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. Funeral sevices were held Monday in St. Gregory the Great Church, Williamsville and burial was in Harris Hill Cemetery, Clarence. Kaye earned a bachelorUs degree from Buffalo State College and his masterUs degree and doctorate in social work from UB. He also studied at the University of Chicago. He began his career as a caseworker for the Erie County Department of Social Services, then served as a social work supervisor in the City of Buffalo ChildrenUs Court. He later was named assistant dean of the UB School of Social Work, where he served for ten years, retiring in 1975. After his retirement from UB, Kaye worked for 15 years as administrative director of casework services for the Buffalo Catholic Diocese. Kaye, who served on many community boards, was most proud of his work with the Randolph ChildrenUs Home in Randolph. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Adele, of Williamsville; two sons, Anthony III of Rochester and Gregory of Gaithersburg, Md.; a daughter, Candise Meade of Williamsville; a brother, Vincent Smith; a sister, Agnes Czahor; and five grandchildren. Richard J. Howard, retired physics professor Memorial services were held Feb. 4 in Unitarian Universalist Church of Amherst for Richard J. Howard, a retired UB physics professor and an expert in cloud chamber physics. Howard died Jan. 30 in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after suffering a heart attack. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he received both B.S. and M.S. degrees, Howard received his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University. In 1961 he joined the UB Physics Department and remained there until his retirement in 1993. Early in his career Howard devoted his research to cloud chamber physics, receiving a grant for his work on supersaturated water vapor. His later work was in 3-D photography and the physics of music. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; two daughters, Diane and Maureen R. Rogers; and three grandchildren.
