Reporter Volume 25, No.14 January 14, 1994 By SUE WUETCHER News Bureau Staff The Center for Management Development in the UB School of Management has scheduled seven "Management Roundtable" sessions throughout the winter and spring to provide Western New York managers with the knowledge necessary to compete successfully in today's global marketplace. The sessions will be held from 8-9:30 a.m. in Fanny's Restaurant, 3500 Sheridan Drive, Amherst. Managers must keep pace with changes in management theory and practice to remain effective throughout their careers. The Management Roundtable is designed to allow organizations to share learning experiences. Participants will leave the sessions with a better understanding of, and possible solutions to, individual or organizational problems. The schedule: n "Harassment in the Workplace: Dealing with the New Legal Requirements," Jan. 28. Lucinda M. Finley, UB professor of law, will discuss the newly proposed Equal Employment Opportunity Commission guidelines that expand the legal boundaries of discriminatory workplace harassment. n "Current Trends in Customer Service in the Grocery Manufacturing Industry," Feb. 17. Jack Ampuja, vice president for logistics for Rich Products Corp., will examine customer service techniques used to improve customer satisfaction. n "Quality Network: A Process for Change," March 24. George A. Strzelczyk, a representative for the General Motors Quality Network, and Russell Flynn, a United Auto Workers Network representative at the Tonawanda Engine Plant, will discuss the total quality management process between General Motors and the UAW. n "Becoming and Remaining a Healthy Company," April 21. Edward Hahn, general manager and vice president of Albany International Corp., will address how his company has become successful in today's highly competitive market. n "The Re-Engineering of the Corporation of the Future," May 19. Cris E. Campos, vice president of Praxair, Inc., will discuss how Praxair, which was the result of the spin-off by Union Carbide Corp. of its industrial gases business, re-engineered itself into a new organization committed to the vision of being the "best-performing" in its industry. n "The Changing World of Product Liability," June 2. David M. Engel, UB professor of law, will discuss how product-liability law has evolved and where it is likely to go in the near future. n "Self-Managing Work Teams--SMWT: How to Implement SMWT on the Factory Floor," June 23. John B. Stevens, training manager at CUTCO Cutlery Corp., and several members of the CUTCO SMWT will discuss how the team approach has reduced costs and increased profits and employee morale. The fee for the Management Roundtable is $40 per session, or $210 for all seven sessions. Group discounts are available, and registration is limited.
