Areas of Research and Scholarship

RENEW’s interdisciplinary research advances new ideas in energy, the environment and water.

The institute will be engaging faculty researchers, administrators, community members and other stakeholders, in refining current research topics and in developing future research areas. This consultation process will help establish RENEW as an environmental authority by developing signature projects that integrate existing resources with new intellectual and operational resources, while also enhancing the quality and distinctiveness of current UB programs.

Our current research addresses several prominent issues, including:

  • Renewable energy
  • Freshwater protection and restoration
  • Ecosystem science, engineering and policy
  • Societal adaptation to changing environments and the green economy
  • Public health
  • Environmental management and governance
