Want to be an entrepreneur or work with a startup?

The second annual UB Entrepreneurs Festival, with events held on each of UB’s three campuses Sept. 20-26, will showcase how students, staff and faculty can get involved in opportunities throughout Western New York.

Activities range from a panel discussion about establishing a private health care practice to a pop-up event featuring entrepreneurial demos in Founders Plaza on the North Campus.

The festival is presented by UB’s Blackstone LaunchPad powered by Techstars[BH1] , Business and Entrepreneur Partnerships at UB, the Allstate Foundation and Colligan Law LLP. Additional sponsors include 43North, Bright Buffalo Niagara, the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, The Graduate School at UB, the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UB and the Western New York Venture Association.

The UB Entrepreneurs Festival includes:

UB Downtown Campus
Sept. 20, UB Clinical and Translational Research Center, 875 Ellicott St., fifth floor

  • 3:30 p.m.: Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition announcement and information session.
  • 4 p.m.: UB RIS2E2 Entrepreneurship Lecture Series featuring Dennis L. Fowler, founder of Better Mousetrap Healthcare Consulting. Fowler’s talk is titled “From Clinical to Wannabe Entrepreneur.”
  • 5 p.m.: Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus Beakers & Beer networking event. RSVP required.

UB South Campus
Sept. 25, 105 Harriman Hall

  • 11:30 a.m.: Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition announcement and information session.
  • Noon: Panel: “How to Establish a Private Practice” featuring UB alumni from the School of Dental Medicine; School of Law; School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; School of Public Health and Health Professions; and School of Social Work. The panel will be moderated by Thomas R. Ulbrich, assistant dean, School of Management. RSVP required.

UB North Campus
Sept. 26, Student Union lobby

  • 1-3 p.m.: A pop-up event featuring entrepreneurship demos will enable attendees to explore the UB and Western New York startup world and meet student, alumni and community entrepreneurs.
  • 3:30-4:30 p.m.: Speed networking with entrepreneurs for UB student entrepreneurs. RSVP required.

UB North Campus
Sept. 26, 210 Student Union

  • 4:30-6 p.m.: Pitch Wars. Attendees are invited to watch as student entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to win one of three spots to represent UB at the Blackstone LaunchPad powered by Techstars entrepreneurs training in New York City.

The UB Entrepreneurs Festival highlights innovation and creativity across UB, celebrating the distinct entrepreneurial spirit of each of UB’s three campuses, says Hadar Borden, program director of Blackstone LaunchPad at UB.

The programming will introduce faculty, staff and UB students at all levels and from all disciplines to opportunities to engage with the growing entrepreneurial ecosystem that is advancing the economic development in Western New York.
