Built Environment, Health Behavior, and Health Outcomes

This initiative will leverage UB’s existing strengths to create a new transdisciplinary research initiative across the disciplines of urban planning and public health.

The new research initiative will focus on exploring the complex connections between the environments in which humans live, their health behaviors, and ultimately their health outcomes. With the hire of four new faculty members in the School of Architecture and Planning and the School of Public Health and Health Profession, the initiative will tie together and build on current research of existing faculty and create intellectual space for the launch of new research within the framework of built environment and health behavior, a growing area of research. The project will result in enhanced sponsored research (an estimated return of 2.85$ for one research dollar invested), the launch of an innovative cross-school dual degree in planning and public health, and accelerated publications by faculty.
