A Center for Excellence in Writing (CEW) will foster excellence in writing and writing instruction across the university by combining and extending existing writing services.

One strategy for achieving and maintaining excellence is a focused effort on recruitment of a high-quality, diverse student body.

This program delineates the academic services and resources that UB will commit to ensure students can graduate in 4 years if they fulfill their pledge to adhere to the 4 year Graduation Plan developed with academic advisment within their major

The Health Services, Policy and Practice Department will focus on academic and research programs in health services/policy. 

The SMBS is well positioned to establish a Department of Biomedical Informatics by taking advantage of several existing outstanding units and centers combined with some key recruits to integrate the existing expertise and bring cohesion and leadership to the discipline at UB.

A platform for integrative biomedical and translational research

The creation of the beginnings of an integrated research infrastructure that will build upon the firm foundation of excellent research, the prior investments in the Strategic Strengths, and the expected investments in additional areas of strength; and to enable our researchers to enter into new ventures, new collaborations, and new directions that position us to compete and win large comprehensive research grants.

The College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences aim to establish, develop and grow a new, internationally recognized Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) graduate degree program (MS, PhD) at UB.

To help achieve the University at Buffalo’s ambitious goals for undergraduate and graduate student recruitment and retention, the University will engage expert assistance to guide the university in development of a comprehensive strategic enrollment management process and development of a strategic enrollment plan to be in place within the next 12 months making this plan operational for the Fall 2013 recruitment cycle.

The Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership is a vital link connecting the university to the culture of entrepreneurial ambition in Western New York.

Techne, the Greek root of both technique and technology, etymologically links epistemology—the production of knowledge—to engaged and embodied practice, to art.

A pilot program for the purchase of electronic versions of textbooks that are used in highly-enrolled classes at the University at Buffalo with the goals of  improving student learning, success, and satisfaction as well as making education in New York State more accessible to students by reducing costs.

Oral infections such as inflammatory periodontal disease have been associated with the pathogenesis of several important systemic diseases and conditions.

The UB Energy Diversification Initiative will address critical national energy needs through a strategic initiative in faculty and facilities.

With this investment, UB is now poised to become a high-visibility, international leader in the field of natural hazards science through the Geohazards Field Station.

With the arrival of the online for-profit higher education enterprise in the market and quickly reaching the top enrollment ranking in 2009, it is evident that the students demand for flexible schedules, on-demand access, and having access to more courses are factors that influence students’ enrollment behaviors.
