Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of William J. McDonnell as Associate Vice Provost for Academic Planning (AVPAP), effective February 18, 2019, following a national search.

In this role, Bill will provide support for academic initiatives and serve as a critical resource for the provost, deans and faculty in planning, coordinating and identifying key academic initiatives that further the university’s academic and academic support mission. Working with academic leadership, he will coordinate and facilitate new and emerging academic initiatives and projects that cut across academic and academic support units. In addition, Bill will chair the Educational Collaborations Committee, working with deans and their staffs to develop multi-decanal academic programs.

Bill has over 20 years of experience in higher education administration. Since 2016, he has served as assistant dean in UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), where he has been an advisor to Dean Liesl Folks and unit business officer, responsible for the organization and supervision of all school finances and for completing the school’s annual resource planning process. In addition, he worked with the dean and faculty to coordinate SEAS proposals, financing and reporting for major SUNY and UB initiatives including SUNY’s Empire Innovation Program, SUNY Performance Improvement Fund, and UB’s E Fund and Communities of Excellence. Prior to SEAS, Bill served as associate dean in UB’s School of Architecture and Planning for more than a decade, where he served as chief financial officer, chief of staff, associate dean for research, facilities planning management officer and senior advisor to Dean Robert Shibley. Bill holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from UB.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Vice Provost Graham Hammill and the search committee for their outstanding service.

Please join me in welcoming Bill to this important role in the Office of the Provost.

Sincerely,
