Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs

Leadership Workshop

UB Academy for Higher Education Leadership

The UB Academy for Higher Education Leadership is presented by the University at Buffalo's Office of the Provost, the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, and the School of Management's Center for Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness.

While this immersive two-day program was originally conceived as training for department chairs, arguably the most demanding leadership position within higher education, it is evolving to include a wider community of faculty and administrative leadership.

As a leader in higher education, you know how demanding your role can be.  At the UB Academy for Higher Education Leadership, you'll build the skills you need to meet your daily responsibilities and enhance your leadership potential in a focused, two-day workshop with key peers.

The 2016 immersive retreat was again held at Beaver Hollow on August 14, 15, & 16.  University at Buffalo Faculty should contact Heather Adsit for additional information.

What former participants have said:
  • “As a vice-chair, I found great value in this retreat. It equipped me with a variety of tools that will help me as a Chair in the future, provided insight into how to effectively communicate with Deans, and helped me develop a network of leaders across the University. If I had to do it again, I would.”
  • "The Chairs Retreat is a great opportunity to network within a key peer group.  The issues covered during the main event and the follow-up sessions are critical to our mutual success as organizational leaders."
  • “Prior to registering for the two day Academic Leadership, I was wondering if this would be a good use of my time.  It seemed like a very large time commitment and given other demands I must admit I was hesitant.  However, after attending, I can firmly state that this was in fact an excellent use of my time.  The training was extremely well thought out and employed a variety of learning experiences.  The course materials continue to serve as an excellent resource to me.  The small group size was also beneficial as we received a lot personalized attention.  I would highly recommend this training for new department chairs.”
