DATE: March 4, 2005
SUBJECT: Celebration of Academic Excellence

Dear Colleagues:

On Friday, April 29th, 2005 at 3:00 p.m., all UB faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to take part in a Celebration of Academic Excellence, a university-wide tribute to scholarly, research, and creative excellence within our campus community. A formal invitation with more detailed event information will follow via e-mail, but until then, we hope that you will hold the date on your calendar and make plans to attend.

“Celebration of Academic Excellence calls together every member of the UB community in affirmation of our commitment to academic leadership, and in recognition of the accomplishments and contributions that best exemplify this spirit of academic achievement and aspiration.” John B. Simpson President

As UB continues to move forward with campus-wide efforts in strategically planning for our future as a leading public university of the twenty-first century, this is an especially fitting time for us to gather together in recognition of the vision, goals, and commitments that unite us as an academic community. This Celebration of Academic Excellence calls together every member of the UB community in affirmation of our commitment to academic leadership, and in recognition of the accomplishments and contributions that best exemplify this spirit of academic achievement and aspiration. In addition to recognizing numerous SUNY-wide and university honors achieved by faculty and staff, this event will also include a special focus on student excellence in research, scholarship, and creative activities. We anticipate that this event will reflect the strength and diversity of the talented and dedicated individuals who make our university strong, and we look forward to the active participation of faculty, staff, and students from across the university.

Additional information regarding the Celebration of Academic Excellence will be included in the forthcoming invitation, and will also be made available on http://myub.buffalo.edu as the event approaches. In the meantime, please direct questions regarding this event to Dr. Michael Ryan, Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Affairs and Chair of the 2005 Celebration of Academic Excellence event committee, at 645-6003, meryan@buffalo.edu , or Mr. William Regan, Director of the Office of Special Events, at 645-6147, wjregan@buffalo.edu .

We hope to see you on April 29th for what promises to be a very memorable celebration for our university community.

Sincerely, signature
John B. Simpson
