Senate passage of UB 2020 bill represents key progress for university and regionJune 3, 2009

Dear Colleagues:

I am delighted to announce that this evening, the New York State Senate passed the UB 2020 Flexibility and Economic Growth Act, bringing us a critical step closer to the full and timely implementation of the UB 2020 vision for the future of our university and the communities it serves.

This is excellent news for UB, SUNY, and our Western New York region. The no-cost, high-impact policy reforms proposed by the bill would give UB the flexibility we need to realize our plans to build a great public research university. As UB 2020 strengthens our university in academic excellence, national prominence, and global importance, it will also extend and deepen our impact on our surrounding communities.

As the Senate clearly has recognized, UB 2020 is no longer only a university initiative. It is a vision of our collective future that is embraced by our larger communities as this regions leading priority, and is strongly supported by the business, building trades, civic, and faith-based communities, as well as over 9,000 UB Believers.

We have made great progress since we embarked on our ambitious plans for UB 2020 five years ago. Now with the Senate endorsing our efforts, we look forward to working with our Assembly partners. Our success going forward will continue to depend on the collective efforts, dedication, and vision of our large coalition of UB 2020 supporters. Thank you, as always, for all that you do to help advance the UB 2020 vision.

Sincerely, signature
