UB Plays Key Role in Historic Health Care Agreement

UB played a key role in efforts that led to the consolidation of the Kaleida Health System and Erie County Medical Center to create the Western New York Healthcare System.
UB had a role from beginning to end in helping to broker the historic agreement between Kaleida Health and Erie County Medical Center to consolidate their services and right-size the region’s hospitals. Faculty members in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences made up the majority of a physicians group that broke an 11th-hour deadlock that threatened to undermine the consolidation. At the same time it approved the consolidation, the State Health Department approved a certificate of need for a new Global Vascular Center, to be built on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, in which UB will have a major role.
