We recognize the great work that the employees of the University
at Buffalo Police Department have performed during the first
quarter of 2017.
During the spring 2017 semester two highly publicized sexual assault cases were reported to the University Police. Throughout the investigations of each of these cases, Investigator Banas worked diligently to ensure that the victims were safe and felt support from the University. Her commitment to the cases resulted in clearing one case as a false report and identification of the suspect in the other. These outcomes would not be possible without Investigator Banas’ dedication to pursue truth and close examination of each case, while getting the victims the help they need.
It is my distinct pleasure to recognize Investigator Banas for the 1st Quarter of 2017, for her diligence and commitment to the well-being of our campus community.
On February 9, 2017 our dispatchers were notified of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Winspear Avenue next to the South campus. In addition to Buffalo Police, Buffalo Fire, and American Medical Response, our officers responded to the call and discovered a drunk driver and 2 female UB student victims. In addition to the victims, the driver hit multiple parked cars before coming to a rest. Officer O’Neil stepped in to provide assistance to the two victims and accompanied them to ECMC. He also ensured that the hospital had any necessary emergency contact information. At the time of the accident Officer O’Neil was completing his field training but his calm and reassuring demeanor went a long way in helping these two victims.
It is my distinct pleasure to recognize Officer O’Neil for the 1st Quarter of 2017 for his quick action and pledge to the safety of the campus community.
