PEARL: Power and Energy Applied Research Lab

System Integration and Diagnostic Center

Located in Bonner Hall on UB’s North Campus, the PCUE Power and Energy Applied Research Laboratory (PEARL) can monitor power systems real-time worldwide.

The PEARL facility was the first lab in the world to generate three-phase voltages and currents that could be applied to devices under test in an arbitrary manner.  PEARL can replicate in the lab real-world conditions, which can affect all sorts of end-use and power-delivery devices, such as relays, motors, transformers, and items on the customer end, such as lights, HVAC, computer systems and more.

A joint effort by UB and SUNY Buffalo State will improve green jobs training for undergraduate and graduate students at both institutions as part of a federally funded program to transform the electrical grid into a "smart grid."
