Four Receive NSF Career Awards

Four UB Engineering faculty were awarded the National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award, totaling a remarkable 27 UB Engineering faculty to have received the award since 1985.
According to the NSF, the CAREER Program offers its most prestigious awards in support of the early career-development activities of teacher-scholars who most effectively integrate research and education within the context of the mission of their organization.
The four assistant professors who received the 2008 NSF CAREER award, and their projects, are:
Murat Demirbas (CSE): “An In-Network Collaboration and Coordination Framework for Wireless Sensor Actor Networks.”
Gilberto Mosqueda (CSEE): “Hybrid Simulation Platform for Seismic Performance Evaluation of Structures Through Collapse.”
Christina Tsai (CSEE): “Stochasic Modeling and Uncertainty Analysis of Sediment Transport in Regular and Extreme Surface Flow Environments.”
Yong-Kyu Yoon (EE): “RF/Microwave components and devices using micro-/nano machined metamaterial”
