An article on Mic about the solar eclipse that will be seen across much of the U.S. on Aug. 21 and the flat Earthers who believe it will prove once and for all that the Earth is not a sphere interviews Will Kinney, professor of physics, who said that people could re-create the solar eclipse at home, but the key is to diffuse the light. “What you need is an extended light source that is at such a distance that it’s almost exactly the same apparent size as the thing you’re blocking it with,” he said.
