Social Work prof quoted in article on mascot name debate

An article in The New York Times about the contentious debate in Lancaster over the name of the school district’s mascot, the Redskins, quotes Hilary Weaver, professor of social work and a former president of Native American Community Services, who said she found the nickname offensive. “Things are headed in a direction where Lancaster and all other school districts will do away with insensitive mascots,” she said. “Many have done away with them already.”
