Gregory Saxton, assistant professor of communication and
director of graduate studies, is quoted in an article in The New
York Times about the impact crowdfunding is having on
nonprofits and the donations made by young people. Research shows
that many donors don’t seem to particularly care whether or
not a project they support is financially effective, he said.
Rather, they are swayed by attention-getting videos and sentimental
stories rather than the depth of the need.
