Business First’s ranking of the 200 most influential people in Western New includes six from UB, with UB President Satish K. Tripathi ranking at No. 7 on the list. Other members of the UB community are, in alphabetical order, are: Dennis Black, vice president for university life and services; Michael Cain, vice president for health sciences and dean of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; L. Nelson Hopkins, professor and chair of neurosurgery; Makau Mutua, dean of the UB Law School; and Robert Shibley, dean of the School of Architecture and Planning. A related article on how the rankings came about reports that often an institution or office will be a factor, and notes that Tripathi has far more influence in the region and state as UB president than as a computer science professor.
