A major feature story on the front page of the Buffalo News explores the materials-science research being conducted at UB and the opportunity it presents to boost private industry and economic development in the Buffalo Niagara region. The article quotes UB President Satish K. Tripathi, Alexander Cartwright, vice president for research and economic development, and Sarbajit Banerjee, associate professor of chemistry. The article notes that last year Albany lawmakers designated UB as home to a new Center of Excellence in Materials Informatics and provided $200,000 in start-up money; this year, UB is asking for $50 million to build a facility for materials research, along with $1 million in annual funding.
