An article in Nature reports a team of plant biologists has identified the gene responsible for the "double-flower" mutation immortalized by Vincent van Gogh in his iconic 1888 Sunflowers series, and quotes UB plant scientist Victor Albert, Empire Innovation Professor of Biological Sciences. "Other plants use the same tools to play the same games," he said. "This gene has popped up multiple times throughout evolution."
