BUFFALO, N.Y. – Western New York will be seeing blue this weekend as the University at Buffalo celebrates Homecoming and Family Weekend.

UB’s iconic Baird Point will be lit up with blue lights from 7-11 p.m. on Oct. 6-7, the atrium of the Center for the Arts will glow UB blue from sundown to midnight Oct. 6-8 and even the Peace Bridge will turn blue from dusk to 1 a.m. on Oct. 6 to celebrate Homecoming and Family Weekend.

UB also has scheduled a lineup of activities that include seminars and performances, a bonfire, carnival and fireworks, tailgate tent parties and the traditional Homecoming football game.

A highlight of the weekend will be “Running toward Fire: Pursuing an Unlikely Career,” a multimedia presentation by UB alumnus and Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Marcus Yam from 4-5 p.m. on Oct. 6 in 220 Student Union on the UB North Campus. Yam, who earned a degree in aerospace engineering at UB before pursuing a career as a newspaper photographer, has twice won journalism’s top award as part of news teams that covered the tragic terrorist attacks in San Bernardino and the deadly mudslide in Oso, Washington.

Friday’s events also will include a pep rally, giant bonfire and fireworks display from 9-10 p.m. along the shore of Lake LaSalle on the North Campus, next to the bookstore.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Homecoming without a football game. Beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, players, coaches and cheerleaders will head into UB Stadium during the Walk to Victory, accompanied by the Thunder of the East marching band. Numerous campus groups will host tailgate parties from 1-3:15 p.m. in the Stadium Lot adjacent to UB Stadium, with musical entertainment by Better than Ezra starting at 1:30 p.m. At 3:30, the Bulls will kick off against the Western Michigan Broncos.
