BUFFALO, N.Y. – New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman will be the keynote speaker at the University at Buffalo’s Law School commencement.

When: Ceremonies begin 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23.

Where: Center for the Arts, UB North Campus.

Who: Schneiderman, elected to attorney general in 2010 and re-elected last year, has introduced several ambitious initiatives, including a program to protect homeowners at risk of losing their homes to foreclosure and the Community Overdose Prevention program, which equips law enforcement agencies with naloxone, a lifesaving antidote in cases of heroin overdose.

Note: Reporters are invited to hear Schneiderman address the UB Law School class, but the attorney general’s schedule will not permit him to grant any interviews before or after the ceremony.

Other honors: The UB Law School will present 201 JD degrees and eight LLM degrees during the graduation ceremonies for the only law school in the SUNY system. Among the major awards to be presented at commencement is the Dean’s Medal awarded to Sam Magavern, co-director of the Partnership for the Public Good. Magavern — a public-interest lawyer, UB adjunct clinical professor of law and prolific writer — is a graduate of UCLA Law School.

In addition, the Ken Joyce Excellence in Teaching Award will be presented to Garry M. Graber ’78, a partner with the Buffalo law firm Hodgson Russ and a member of the Law School’s Dean’s Advisory Council. Graber’s practice includes bankruptcy, corporate restructuring, creditors’ rights, financial services, commercial and corporate litigation, and general business law.
