“This is an excellent opportunity to meet UB police officers out of their uniform working side-by-side with Special Olympics athletes and raising support and donations for such a great cause.”
Mark Gates, UB Police

BUFFALO, N.Y. – After the high of Super Bowl weekend, the University at Buffalo Police Department will greet patrons, refill drinks and bus tables at Tully’s Good Times on Feb. 7 to raise money for another sporting program, the Special Olympics of New York.

Appropriately titled “Law and Orders,” the benefit is part of the ongoing fundraising and awareness program organized by UB’s law enforcement officers.

“This is an excellent opportunity to meet UB police officers out of their uniform working side-by-side with Special Olympics athletes and raising support and donations for such a great cause,” said Lt. Mark Gates of University Police at UB.

Gates and other officers will assist Tully’s staff and ask diners for donations from 5-8 p.m. Tully’s is a sports-themed, casual dining restaurant located at 1459 Niagara Falls Blvd. in Amherst.

Special Olympics New York serves 55,698 athletes and is the largest program of its kind in the U.S., providing free training and competition in various Olympic sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Founded in 1969 and fully incorporated into a private non-profit organization in 1970, Special Olympics New York is funded primarily by donations from individuals, corporations and foundations.

More information about Special Olympics New York’s competitions and training programs can be found on the organization’s website at http://www.nyso.org.
