James D. Boyle

James D. Boyle, BS '78, has had a long and varied career as a civil engineer, working on myriad significant projects for both the Erie County Highway Department and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Boyle has been a dedicated volunteer for the UB Engineering Alumni Association (UBEAA) for more than 20 years, not only as a member of the board of directors, but also as its president for the past three years. During his tenure, participation in UBEAA-sponsored events has increased each year, and membership has also been on the rise. The UBEAA supports many popular activities for alumni, including the annual Engineer of the Year Award; a UB Bulls football tailgate event; a kickoff celebration for Engineers Week; and Order of the Engineer, a national effort to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession. The group also sponsors student scholarships and a number of other student activities.

Boyle's wife, Ellen, graduated in 1978 from the UB School of Nursing. They have two children, Thomas and Katie.
