The University at Buffalo and Kaleida Health will kick off construction of a new joint clinical care and research facility at a groundbreaking ceremony at 11 a.m. today (Aug. 3, 2009) on the building site at Goodrich and Ellicott streets in Buffalo.

*** THE MEDIA CAN ACCESS THE SITE BY ENTERING ON NORTH STREET, BETWEEN ELLICOTT AND MICHIGAN STREETS ***

The ceremony will mark the official beginning of the collaborative facility, which will include Kaleida Health's Global Vascular Institute, UB's Center for Clinical and Translational Research and a UB Biosciences Incubator.

When it is completed, the facility will bring together Kaleida Health physicians and UB researchers and faculty in a collaborative effort to deliver state-of-the-art patient care supported by new treatments and technologies. The work to be accomplished in the building -- and the Kaleida Health-UB partnership -- will play a major role in the effort to transform Western New York into a world-class health care destination and expand UB's presence in downtown Buffalo.

Available for interviews at the groundbreaking will be UB President John B. Simpson and Kaleida Health President and CEO James R. Kaskie.
