Gill to speak at "UB at Noon...Downtown" Event

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- University at Buffalo head football coach Turner Gill will be the speaker at the UB at Noon…Downtown luncheon series, to be held May 18 in Chef's Restaurant, 291 Seneca St., Buffalo.

The luncheon series is sponsored by the UB Alumni Association in conjunction with the School of Management Alumni Association,

The program will begin at noon and conclude promptly at 1 p.m. with a question-and-answer session. The buffet lunch will feature salad, rigatoni, oven-roasted potatoes, Italian-style green beans, roast chicken, breaded pork chops, dessert, coffee and tea.

Cost of the program is $15 for UBAA/SOMAA members and $20 for nonmembers.

Registration is being accepted by UB's Office of Alumni Relations at 645-3312. The deadline for reservations is May 12.

Gill, who was named UB football coach last December, spent the 2005 season as the player development director and offensive assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers.

As the starting quarterback from 1981-83 at the University of Nebraska, Gill never lost a Big Eight Conference game, led the Cornhuskers to the national championship game and was a Heisman Trophy finalist.

He was on Nebraska coaching staffs that won three national championships, and also coached Eric Crouch, who won the Heisman. Gill was rated as one of the nation's top 10 recruiters in 2001 and 2002 by ESPN.com and was among the finalists in '02 for the Frank Broyles Award, given annually to the top assistant coach in the nation.

He tutored the Husker quarterbacks from 1992-2002, was assistant head coach in 2003 and wide receiver coach in 2004.

Gill, who received a degree in behavior analysis from the University of North Texas, is in the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame and was a three-time All Big-Eight pick, as well as the most valuable player in both the Orange Bowl and Kickoff Classic games.
