BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The UB Office of Career Planning and Placement has announced a program to help local human-resource professionals increase their success in recruiting college students.

The program, "Recruiting the 21st Century Student," will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 27 in the Student Union on the UB North Campus.

It will feature panel presentations by local college and university career services offices and graduating college students, as well as a best-practices panel of recruiters and a presentation, "I am Buffalo Niagara," by a representative of the Buffalo Niagara Enterprise. The program will conclude with a networking reception with students.

Daniel J. Ryan, UB director of career planning and placement, called the effort "a major step toward plugging the local 'brain drain.'

"There continues to be a huge disconnect in this community between young, educated adults who believe that you need to leave Western New York to find a good job, and those local employers who say that they are having a difficult time finding talented people to fill their positions," Ryan added. "This program is an attempt to help bridge that gap and connect these two groups, both of which have a commitment to this community."

Employers wishing to participate in the program should contact Cheryl Incorvia at 645-2232, ext. 118 to make a reservation.
