Three UB Students Receive J. Scott Fleming Merit Awards

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Three UB students have received J. Scott Fleming Merit Awards for leadership and volunteer efforts that promote student involvement and enhance the student experience.

David M. Forgues of Redlands, Calif.; Kaya Gerberich of Oswego, and Priyank Shah of Hicksville each received a certificate and a $500 check.

The award is presented by the University Student Alumni Board, the student affiliate of the UB Alumni Association. It is named for a former executive director of the UB Office of Alumni Relations.

Forgues, who will receive a master's degree in psychology next spring, is president of the Graduate Student Association and teaches a UB 101 course. He works as a graduate assistant in the Office of Student Activities and chaired the Graduate Student Research Symposium. He has served internships as an orientation staff coordinator and in the Office of Admissions.

Gerberich, a senior psychology major, is a community assistant for the university's Hadley Village apartments, president of the UB chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary and an assistant for the UB 101 program. She also is a student assistant in the Office of Student Unions and Activities.

Shah is a senior majoring in political science, with a concentration in public affairs and a minor in sociology. He is co-founder of the Indian-interest fraternity Delta Epsilon Sigma Iota, Sub-Board I treasurer and a member of the President's Task Force on Ethnicity and Diversity.
