Proper Use Of Medications To Be Focus Of Free Pharmacy Fair

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Lotions, potions, prescription and over-the-counter medicines, herbs and preparations can help you, hurt you or be a waste of money.

Western New Yorkers can find out which is which by attending the free Pharmacy Fair being held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Center for Tomorrow on the UB North Campus.

New York State registered pharmacists, as well as faculty and students from the UB School of Pharmacy, will answer questions about the proper use and side effects of medications and offer advice about the dangers of taking certain combinations of drugs and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The pharmacists will offer a comprehensive, professional evaluation of any prescription, non-prescription or over-the-counter products, herbs and vitamins participants bring to the fair.

Youngsters can learn about the dangers of eating or drinking appealing but dangerous products around the home via a video puppet show to be presented by the Western New York Regional Poison Control Center and the UB chapter of the Academy of Students of Pharmacy.

Free blood-pressure testing will be available.

In addition, the Independent Nurses Association will provide flu shots and cholesterol testing for a nominal charge.
