Robert G. Shibley, long-time faculty member and a lead developer of both the University at Buffalo and City of Buffalo's comprehensive plans, has been named dean of the UB School of Architecture and Planning.

The University at Buffalo Student Association, in partnership with the UB Office of Community Relations, will hold its annual community service event, UB Getting Dirty, on Sunday, Oct. 10, from 1-4 p.m. in the neighborhoods around the UB South Campus.

"Doorhanger" kits containing safety reminders and tips on how to be a good neighbor will be distributed to more than 2,700 homes surrounding the University at Buffalo's South Campus from 3-6 p.m. today (Tuesday, Aug. 24).

Workers will begin mowing, clearing and grading land adjacent to Flint Road on the University at Buffalo North Campus in September to make way for "The Solar Strand," a 1.1 megawatt solar-energy array designed by internationally renowned landscape architect Walter Hood and funded by a $7.5 million grant from the New York Power Authority.

The University at Buffalo will launch its fourth season of UB on the Green, a free outdoor performance series held on the front lawn of Hayes Hall on the UB South Campus, with a performance by The Rockas with special guest Caitlin Albe Koch.

University at Buffalo faculty, staff and students will gather from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, May 15) to help make a difference in the community surrounding the UB South Campus as part of the second annual UB Community Day.

The University at Buffalo Graduate Planning Student Association (GPSA) has received the 2010 award for Outstanding Planning Student Organization from the American Planning Association for a project that involved students from the Buffalo Public Schools in neighborhood revitalization efforts.

The University at Buffalo's Center for Educational Collaboration (CEC) will bring its message of civic engagement and personal empowerment to elementary children through a summer camp that mixes interactive activities with UB's mission of making a difference in the world.

Rev. Michael Chapman, pastor of St. John Baptist Church and president of the Oak-Michigan Housing Development Corporation, a not-for-profit housing development corporation of St. John Baptist Church, today announced a step forward for a well-devised, systematic business plan to revitalize Buffalo's East Side, and the critical role of the University at Buffalo in achieving this goal.

The sale price for McCarley Gardens will be $15 million. The sale of the property is contingent upon HUD's approval and the completion of several conditions designed to assure that the needs and concerns of the residents of McCarley Gardens are met.
