The University at Buffalo's "City Voices, City Visions" student film festival will present its "Academy Awards" to the winning high school digital cinematographers 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the Market Arcade Film and Arts Centre, 639 Main St., in downtown Buffalo.

Don't tell the students in the University at Buffalo Law School's Regional Economic Development class the next big idea to revive Western New York communities isn't sitting in plain sight -- complete with reader-friendly illustrations.

The Center for Urban Studies, a research and community development unit in the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning, has joined itself to a massive effort: a proposal by the City of Buffalo and the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority to restructure, redevelop and rehabilitate downtown Buffalo's seriously declining Commodore Perry neighborhood and turn it into the vibrant, sustainable community it once was.

University at Buffalo Police today charged a 21-year old Buffalo male with second-degree robbery and related charges following an early-morning robbery on the South Campus.

As part of a joint effort between the University at Buffalo and the City of Buffalo to improve living conditions for UB students living in the neighborhoods around the South Campus, building inspectors will be revisiting houses that were found in violation this fall to see if landlords have made the recommended improvements, and they will be inspecting new homes.

If you live in the neighborhoods around the University at Buffalo's North Campus, you may be hearing shouts of "Trick or Eat" this Halloween. But these are not your typical trick-or-treaters looking for candy. Underneath the costume will be a UB student asking for a donation of non-perishable food.

The University at Buffalo will celebrate the inauguration of its 15th president, Satish K. Tripathi, with a week-long series of events, Sept. 19-23. Related art exhibitions will begin before and run beyond that week. All events are open to the public and all but a few are free of charge.

A colorful ceremony rich in tradition and pageantry will mark the formal investiture of Satish K. Tripathi as the University at Buffalo's 15th president at 3 p.m. Sept. 23 in the Center of the Arts on the UB North Campus. The ceremony will be followed by a public reception in the center's atrium.

The University at Buffalo will hold its fifth season of UB on the Green, a free outdoor performance series on the South Campus, with free music and dance performances from 6-8 p.m. on three Wednesday evenings: Sept. 7 on Hayes Hall lawn, Sept. 14 on Rotary Field along Bailey Avenue and Sept. 21 on Hayes Hall lawn.

The University at Buffalo will welcome new and returning students back with open arms during Opening Weekend, UB's tradition of offering students a fun, event-packed weekend before the beginning of the fall semester.
