BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo School of Management honored two doctoral students with $1,000 prizes for their poster presentations at the inaugural PhD Showcase and Celebration held during the spring semester.

Jeffrey Bentley of Rochester and Niam Yaraghi of Esfahan, Iran, were honored for their research and poster presentations.

Sixteen students representing the School of Management's six doctoral disciplines took part in the competition. Bentley's research is in the organization and human resources discipline, while Yaraghi's is in management science and systems.

Minakshi Trivedi, professor of marketing and chair of the school's doctoral program, welcomed students, faculty and guests to the event. Arjang Assad, dean of the UB School of Management, presented the awards, in addition to making remarks. Other speakers included Alexander Cartwright, vice president for research and economic development at UB; Mark Huselid, School of Management alumnus and professor of HR strategy in the Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations; and the students' department advisors.

"We plan to make the PhD Showcase and Celebration an annual event so we can continue to recognize and reward the excellence of our doctoral students," Trivedi said. "The event was a great opportunity for our students to interact with other departments, and shows the School of Management's strong commitment as a research institution."

Michael Farrell, professor of sociology and associate dean in UB's College of Arts and Sciences, and Nagesh S. Revankar, professor and director of graduate studies in UB's Department of Economics, served as judges for the poster contest.

A reception attended by students, faculty, staff and friends followed the awards presentation.
