Timothy Murphy, director of UB’s Clinical and Translational Research Center, was interviewed on WBFO-FM about the impact budget cuts to the National Institutes of Health could have on local research. “One of the very important effects is on the future of our ability to train the next generation of researchers,” he said. “If we lose several years of training people because they choose not to go into the field because of these devastating budget cuts, and the absence of funding to sustain their careers, we’re going to lose an infrastructure that will take a long time to recover from.”  Murphy also was quoted in a story on YNN. A related story on WKBW-TV reports on a protest about the budget cuts held by researchers at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and notes that in Western New York, $120 million in federal money helps fund biomedical research at UB, Roswell Park and Hauptman-Woodward Research Institute.
