Amanda Nickerson, director of UB’s Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention said that events like the Sandy Hook killings trigger fundamental fears.

Amanda Nickerson, director of UB’s Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention, was interviewed in The New York Times about Friday’s tragic shooting in Newtown, Conn., which left 27 people, including 20 first graders, dead. Studies have made clear that American schools are quite safe and that children were more likely to be killed outside of school. “When something like this happens, everybody says it’s an epidemic, and that’s just not true,” she said.  Nickerson also was quoted in the New York Times’ blog The Learning Network.
