Areas of expertise: Earthquake engineering, blast
engineering, risk assessment of nuclear power plants
Andrew Whittaker, PhD, has conducted extensive research on
the seismic resilience of nuclear power plants and is considered a
leading expert on the structural design of next-generation nuclear
reactors. He also specializes in how buildings and infrastructure
react to bombs and other blasts. He is a professor of civil,
structural and environmental engineering, and president of the
nonprofit Consortium of Universities for Research in Earthquake
Engineering, or CUREE.
