Andrew Whittaker, PhD, has conducted extensive research on the seismic resilience of nuclear power plants and is considered a leading expert on the structural design of next-generation nuclear reactors. He also specializes in how buildings and infrastructure react to bombs and other blasts. He is a professor of civil, structural and environmental engineering, and president of the nonprofit Consortium of Universities for Research in Earthquake Engineering, or CUREE.
