Expertise:

  • Pediatric critical care
  • Invented a liquid-breathing technique called PAGE, a perfluorcarbon-associated gas exchange, for treating premature babies and adults with respiratory distress syndrome, also called partial liquid breathing, procedure uses a chemically inert liquid with a high affinity for oxygen to lessen the pulmonary tension in damaged lungs, which makes gas exchange easier

Fuhrman has received a patent for his method, which is economical because it uses a standard respirator to deliver the oxygen bursts, rather than specialized equipment. Honored in 1993 by the Society of Critical Care Medicine for his work. Very congenial and willing to talk to the press.
