Internationally known for his work on the cellular basis of respiratory infections. Chief of the Infectious Diseases Section in the Department of Medicine, and was named Inventor of the Year in 1992 by the Technical Societies Council of the Niagara Frontier for his development of a vaccine against one of the bacteria responsible for middle-ear infections, and currently holds a patent on the vaccine. In 1994, he won the Investigator of the Year Award from the American Federation for Clinical Research-Eastern District. Discovered a novel protein on the surface of the bacterial species Haemophilis influenzae, which turned out to be a good target for a vaccine.
