Dr. Wactawski-Wende is co-director of UB's Women's Health Initiative Vanguard Clinical Center. She is a specialist in epidemiology and women's health, with emphasis on areas involved in WHI. In addition to being co-principal investigator on the WHI trials, she is principal investigator or co-PI on a number of WHI ancillary studies funded at UB. These include research into the association between osteoporosis and periodontal disease; the pathways leading to benign breast disease; the potential protective effects of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on macular degeneration, and the study of HRT and its effect on memory and cognitive function.
