Led a study that found computer system designed to provide fast service for a national fast-food chain was ineffective. It couldn't cope with unexpected events, such as arrival of an entire Little League team; also, monitors were set up in managers' offices, but managers are rarely in their offices. It found that decisions on what to cook and where were made by sales people, not food preparers. Study showed that the system's designers did not fully appreciate what workers deal with on a daily basis, a conflict between workers and systems that exists in many industries.
