Mang was director of the Photodynamic Therapy Center at Roswell Park Cancer Institute before becoming the director of the Photodynamic Therapy Clinical Center at Buffalo General Hospital. Does pioneering work in extremely early detection of cancer cells using lasers, both with a photosensitizer and with autofluorescence. Has used laser therapy to reduce lesions of Kaposi's sarcoma, a therapy that does not further compromise the immune systems of AIDS patients. Also is associate director of the Great Lakes Biomedical Laser Center, a consortium of Niagara Frontier institutions involved in laser research.
