Her longitudinal study of free-ranging rhesus monkey mother-child interaction documented the degree to which repeated separations from their (mating) mothers leave some of the infants markedly disturbed. Research validates laboratory studies on parent-offspring attachment and affective disorders in humans. Widely published, has received grants from Guggenheim Foundation, National Science Foundation,National Institute of Mental Health and Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research. A collaborating scientist at Caribbean Primate Research Center in Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico.
