AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

Space debris, space junk

Head shot of John Crassidis, UB expert on space junk.

John Crassidis works with NASA, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Space Force and other agencies to monitor space debris, also known as space junk, which threatens satellites and future space missions.

There is no cost-effective way to remove space debris, so Crassidis is improving how we track the thousands of manmade objects that orbit Earth.

His research is focused on improving the security of the nation’s communication and weather satellites, as well as mitigating the risks posed by space debris to future space missions.
