In his latest installment of “Take 5,” President Satish K. Tripathi interviews Jean Wactawski-Wende, SUNY Distinguished Professor of Epidemiology and dean of the School of Public Health and Health Professions.

During UB’s spring 2020 commencement exercises, Tripathi awarded Wactawski-Wende the President’s Medal in recognition of her extraordinary service to the university, including her leadership role in the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) — the largest longitudinal study of women’s health in the United States.

Wactawski-Wende, a UB faculty member for more than 30 years, has made seminal contributions to her field that have significantly impacted health care practice and disease prevention for women nationwide and around the world.

She discusses the history and future of the WHI in this episode of “Take 5,” Tripathi’s series of Zoom conversations with faculty, students, staff and alumni who are making a positive impact on the communities UB serves.
