NAVIGATE Retreat

Sept. 13-16, 2018 | Beaver Hollow Conference Center | Java, NY

This free, three-day professional development conference at Beaver Hollow Conference Center will feature invited speakers on topics that pertain to gender bias, inequity and discrimination in STEM fields. Cases studies, designed to grow the participant's abilities to overcome gender-related career obstacles, will be presented.

Situated on 300 scenic acres of natural woodland in beautiful Wyoming County, Beaver Hollow Conference Center offers a breathtaking backdrop for meetings and conferences.

Take advantage of the outdoor pool or the new indoor Independent Health Aquatic Center for a workout or just to relax and unwind.

Work out in Beaver Hollow's Biggest Loser Resort Niagara fitness facilities, including an equipment gym and an aerobics gym.

Double rooms have two full-size beds and a large private bath. Free high-speed internet access, cable TV, worktable, phone with voicemail, radio alarm clock, data port, in-room climate-control, terry cloth bathrobe, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, and shampoo are standard amenities.

Beaver Hollow meeting rooms and conference rooms are equipped with ergonomic chairs, high quality conference tables, appropriate and flexible lighting, state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and tackable wall surfaces.

Beaver Hollow is a unique resort, set in over 300 acres of private natural woodlands, and is the ideal location for our retreat. Students will be accommodated in double rooms with full sized beds and en suite bathrooms. Hairdryers and irons are provided in all rooms. Downtime will be included in the retreat program so that students can take advantage of the resort facilities, including access to outdoor activities such as walking and hiking, and indoor facilities such as the gym and the salt-water pool and jacuzzi. In the evenings, participants can relax by the outdoor bonfire over s’mores.

Transportation to and from Beaver Hollow will be provided using UB’s Stampede Buses. Buses will take participants to the retreat, which will take place between 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 13 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 16. Please note that you will need to miss classes on Friday.

Who can Attend:

Attendance at this retreat is required for all UB graduate women in STEM fields who are enrolled in NSF’s NAVIGATE Project. (Learn more or apply here.)

Cost of Attendance:

All meals and accomodations will be provided at no cost to UB graduate women enrolled in NSF’s NAVIGATE Project.
