Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the initiation of a national search for the Dean of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. We plan to recruit an individual with stellar academic credentials who will help us to move the UB medical school and its programs into the top tier. I have asked the following individuals to serve on the search committee:

  • Jian Feng, Associate Professor, Physiology and Biophysics
  • John Hay, Grant T. Fisher Chair and Professor of Microbiology and Immunology
  • Judith D. Lampasso, Assistant Professor, Orthodontics
  • Mark J. Lema, Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology
  • Thomas Mahl, Clinical Associate Professor, Medicine
  • Maureen Mussenden, Associate Counsel, SUNY Office of the University Counsel
  • Peter A. Nickerson, Chair of the UB Faculty Senate, and Director of the Pathology Graduate Program in the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences

  • Linda M. Wild, Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences

Assisting the search committee will be Ilene H. Nagel who leads the national Higher Education Practice for Russell Reynolds Associates, focusing on searches in universities and colleges for senior academic administrators. Ilene brings to her role at Russell Reynolds extensive experience in academic leadership and as a higher education search consultant.

Shortly, Dean Trevisan will convene the search committee to develop the search process and appropriate timetable, and to begin to solicit for nominations. I am sure we will attract a large number of excellent candidates, and I look forward to the committee's recommendations.
