Associate Professor Chris S. Renschler joined UB in the Department of Geography in 2001. He has been an MCEER investigator since 2006, and was elected an MCEER faculty member in 2010. He is the Director of the Landscape-based Environmental System Analysis & Modeling (LESAM) Laboratory at UB.

Renschler’s research, teaching and outreach focus on remote sensing, geographic information science, environmental modeling, earthquakes, flooding, debris flows, soil and water conservation in the context of preparedness, emergency response, community resilience and sustainable development. He has served as an investigator or consultant on a number of environmental modeling and hazard management projects around the world. He was appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo after Superstorm Sandy in 2011; he worked on a number of projects, including, mapping the short-term and long-term impacts of the 2005 Hurricane Rita, 2010 Haiti Earthquake, 2011 Tohoku Earthquake, etc. Based on his contributions to the engineering profession, he was awarded full membership by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) through a nomination and review process.
