Lee named dean of Graduate School of Education

Portrait of Jaekyung Lee

Dear University Community:

With great pleasure I announce the appointment of Dr. Jaekyung Lee as the next dean of UB’s Graduate School of Education.  Dr. Lee is a fellow of the American Educational Research Association and an internationally recognized leader in education policy, educational equity, and international and comparative education.  Dr. Lee’s scholarly research agenda focuses on addressing pressing social questions regarding high-stakes testing and education accountability, and educational achievement gaps.  He has served with distinction as Interim Dean of GSE since July 2012.

Dr. Lee’s appointment represents the culmination of an extensive national search that yielded a great number of highly competitive candidates. Dr. Lee will lead the Graduate School of Education as it pursues an ambitious vision for advancing its national and international prominence in research, graduate education, and educational policy. Our future is directly tied to the education society delivers. During this time of debate locally and nationally on how best to deliver that education, Dr. Lee’s scholarship and administrative skills make him an outstanding choice to lead the Graduate School of Education.  I am confident that under Dr. Lee’s leadership, the impact of the scholarship, education and engagement of the GSE will expand and, during that process, the global stature of UB will continue to grow.   Dr. Lee’s appointment as dean is effective immediately.

I would like to extend my personal thanks to Dean Bob Shibley and all of the members of the search committee for their excellent service which was critical to the successful outcome of the search.   For more details on this appointment, please view the full announcement here.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Lee and in welcoming him to this significant leadership role within our campus community.

Best regards,

Chip
