Laura Barnum currently serves as the Senior Associate Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Budget. In this role, she leads the university budget planning activities and serves as the principal liaison with all campus divisions in the conduct of the annual budget process and longer-term budget planning and forecasting activities.
Previously, Laura served as the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations where she was responsible for oversight of facility operations, student-athlete services and recreation and intramurals, as well as sport supervision of men¹s and women’s soccer, volleyball, women's basketball and softball. She also served as the Mid-American Conference Sport Administrative Chair for women’s soccer. Barnum has also served as the Officer-in-Charge of UB Athletics. In that role, she had day-to-day responsibility for the Division of Athletics and sport supervision of football and men’s and women’s basketball. Barnum joined the division in the fall of 1996 as the Assistant Director of Finance and was appointed as the Director of Business Operations in 1998 and Assistant Athletics Director for Business Operations in 2002. She was appointed to the position of Senior Woman Administrator in December of 2003 after serving as Interim SWA during her UB tenure.
A native of Fayette, NY, Barnum was a student-athlete at Romulus Central School--where she earned 15 varsity letters in soccer, volleyball, basketball and softball. She went on to become a standout volleyball player at UB, and served as the 1993 NGWSD student speaker. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 1993 and in 1996 served as an assistant coach. She earned a master’s in sport administration from Canisius College while serving as the assistant volleyball coach from 1993 to 1995. Barnum completed her master¹s in business administration from UB in May of 2000. She resides in Pendleton with her two daughters Sophie and Sarah and chocolate lab Isaac.
