UB pharmacy faculty honored by WNY pharmacists association

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Two faculty members in the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences have received the highest honors from the Pharmacists Association of Western New York (PAWNY).

Karl Fiebelkorn, senior associate dean for student, professional and community affairs, was inducted into the PAWNY Hall of Fame in recognition of his lifelong work in the pharmacy profession and community.

Christopher Daly, PharmD, clinical assistant professor in the UB Department of Pharmacy Practice, was awarded Pharmacist of the Year by PAWNY for his devotion and service to the profession.

Both faculty members were recognized at the PAWNY annual banquet on June 8.

PAWNY is an organization of pharmacists and associated health care professionals dedicated to the advancement of the pharmacy profession.

About Karl Fiebelkorn

Fiebelkorn is a renowned expert in the laws, rules and regulations governing pharmacy practice in New York, as well as the management and development of community pharmacy practices.  

He joined the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences as a full-time faculty member in 1995. In addition to overseeing student, professional and community affairs within the school, Fiebelkorn is also a clinical associate professor, teaching in several subject areas that include pharmacy law, management, and pharmacist immunization.

Fiebelkorn was among the first pharmacist immunizer trainers in New York, and worked with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to create a regional DEA Drug Take-Back Program that serves 32 sites in Western New York and gives local citizens the opportunity to dispose of unused drugs responsibly.

He is a member and officer of several professional organizations and has received numerous awards, including the 2014 Bowl of Hygeia Award from the American Pharmacists Association Foundation and the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations. The Bowl of Hygeia is considered one of the nation’s most prestigious awards in the profession for community service.

Fiebelkorn earned a both a bachelor’s degree of pharmacy and a master’s degree of business administration from UB.

About Christopher Daly

Daly, a third generation pharmacist, has been an active advocate for community pharmacy for more than a decade. He focuses his academic research on innovative community pharmacy models, entrepreneurialism, social and administrative pharmacy practice, and clinical-based outcomes.

Daly also leads the school’s Research Pharmacy, a licensed outpatient facility that provides UB and local investigators with pharmaceutical support for their research.

He has received numerous awards, including the 2017 Excellence in Innovation Award from the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York and Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, and the PAWNY 2016 Distinguished Young Pharmacists Award.

Daly earned both a doctor of pharmacy degree and master’s degree in business administration from UB.
